South Australia...the birthplace of WYI, Step Out Australia and home to the national office! In the early days of Step Out, our SA team lost many of its members to overseas adventures however we maintained ourselves as a small and well bonded group of passionate people and after building momentum for the previous years, Step Out SA is now powering on and producing awesome things.
It had been a long time coming, but on the 8th of July 2011, Step Out SA held a Photography Exhibition for our inaugural fundraising event. Raising money to go towards the new World Youth International (WYI) Indigenous Leadership Program, our group got together a collection of top quality photos taken during our WYI programs in Kenya, Peru, Cambodia and Nepal. These photos were displayed around the beautiful Unley Town Hall and were the highlight of the evening, along with delicious nibbles cooked by the team, wine donated from several sources and a fantastic local band. From the sales of entry tickets, pictures and raffles, we managed to raise around $6000! All that attended said that it was such professional and enjoyable night which is a real credit to the effort put in by everyone in Step Out SA. After such a successful first event the vibe the group is well and truly buzzing and since then we have had a number of social catch ups over picnics, drinks and chocolate and in October 2011 a group of us walked a impressive 34kms for the Trailblazer event which raised funds for charities including World Youth International. Our team is growing stronger all the time and after the success of our first event, we are looking forward to seeing what we can achieve next. If you are from the beautiful ?festival state' please come along and get involved, we would love to have you.
