Plagued
by recent history of war and genocide, Cambodia is one of the world's
least developed countries. Although the country has sustained
considerable peace and stability over the last decade, they are still
facing the formidable challenge of rebuilding social, political and
economic institutions. Cambodia plays host to the spectacular Angkor-Wat
temples, breathtaking countryside, magnificent beaches and some of the
friendliest people in the world. The magical beauty of the landscape,
culture and people has made this South East Asian destination immensely
popular for tourists.
Overseas Action Program Cambodia
Travelling through Cambodia provokes a rollercoaster
of emotions - the amazement of Angkor Wat, one of the world's greatest
achievements; but also the darkness and despair of the reality of war.
The program is for 18 - 30 year olds and runs for between 5 - 10 weeks
with a professionally trained Australian Team Leader. You will work in a
very hands on role, building sustainable structures in rural villages
while you live and play with the local community! There is no need for
any previous construction skills as we work hand in hand with local
labourers - all you need is passion, and a commitment to give it a go
and get your hands dirty. Your construction project will build a
structure which the community desperately needs, in the areas of Primary
Health Care, Income Generation and Education & Training.
Individually, you will also have the opportunity to work within a
community in an area you are passionate about such as education, or in
an orphanage or street kids home.
What else do I need to know?
