EXCLUSIONS:

Your Program fee does not include the items listed below. For your benefit, we have given you an estimated average costing of these items but it is important to acknowledge that this is a guideline only.

  • Air travel, taxes & travel insurance - You are required to organize your own airfares and to the nominated destination point. Travel insurance is compulsorary for all programs. Contact WYI for our recommended travel agent and insurance company.
  • Vaccinations - As WYI is not a registered medical organisation, we can only direct you to www.tmvc.com.au (Travel Doctor) or www.drsref.com.au/travel.html for country specific advice and general travel health.
  • Visas - You are required to enter all destinations on a tourist visa. WYI will provide you with the application form and guide you through the process.
  • Police check - You are required to provide a National Police Clearance Certificate (NPCC) from within your state. Please visit your local police station and request the appropriate forms. This is a standard police check and this will generally cost you between $30 - $50. We do not require you to have finger print testing which is generally a very expensive procedure. A current Working With Children check is okay.
  • Medical examination - As part of your application process, we request that your doctor fill in a WYI medical form to determine you are fit to travel.
  • Meals (Overseas Service Program - Kenya and Peru only) - You are required to budget approx $50AUD per week for your meals, drinks and toiletry items. Meals are included with all other programs.
  • Personal clothing, travelling equipment e.g. backpack, sleeping bag, walking boots etc. - These expenses can vary dramatically depending on your destination and personal needs. You can often buy some items cheaply in country once you arrive.
  • Spending money for activities undertaken on free days, during holidays and other personal expenses - We suggest a minimum amount of $400 per month to cover any additional expenses that may arise during your program. This may include costs for drinks, toiletries, gifts, phone calls, etc.
  • First Aid Kit - We strongly recommend that volunteers take a personal first aid kit. St. John First Aid Kits can vary from $20 - $150. Information on these can be found at www.stjohn.org.au.
  • Transport / flights to Adelaide for the optional four day Leadership and Personal Development Training - WYI holds an annual program in Adelaide for all returned volunteers. All costs for this program are included except your travel expenses.
