Goa: small region on the south west coast of India (Colva, Margaon): hilly, dense tropical rainforest and spectacular beaches.

Your OSP development program will be in one of the follwing areas. follow the links below for more information.

Placement Options

Wildlife Preservation: Play an active role in giving care to rescued, abandoned and mistreated animals, as well as assisting with community educational awareness campaigns.

General Education: Lead classes in English education and basic mathematics whilst working in primary schools that are under-funded, over-crowded, or poorly managed. Your familiarity with the English language is an enormous asset to the education of children in India, where knowledge of the English language substantially increases employability and important life skills.

Day Care: Bring enthusiasm and excitement to young children and provide tangible incentives for mothers to make use of the facilities. Have a lasting impact on children's lives that will go further than we can ever imagine!

Women Empowerment: Have a dramatic effect on the empowerment of young adolescent girls and adult women who have been victimized by unequal gender norms. Be a positive role model for women's empowerment. Teach vital English language, Microsoft Office computer skills and develop wonderful friendships.

Health Awareness Campaigns: Lead creative public awareness campaigns aimed to broadcast the importance of relevant health subjects including safe sex, proper hygiene, and Iodine Deficiency Disorders among young children.

Orphanages: Lead creative field trips for orphaned children, help build their confidence, tutor in home work, teach vocational skills, organize games and recreational activities, and provide much needed individualized attention.

HIV/AIDS: Coordinate and lead community awareness campaigns that stress the importance of safe sex by providing accurate information about the dangers of sexually transmitted diseases. Assist directly with HIV/AIDs patients in local hospitals and provide much needed care, attention and support.

Elderly Care: Organize structured recreational activities for the elderly residents to promote increased stimulation and socialization, lead visits into the community to help integrate the elderly residents into their local neighborhood, and simply care and listen.

Please note:

WYI's volunteer placements in India are a different structure from our individual volunteer placements (OSP - Overseas Service Project) in other countries Kenya, Uganda and Peru. This is because in India, WYI is partnered with a local non-government organisation IDEX (Indian Network for Development Exchange).

IDEX has been working in India for 7 years and partners with organisations such as WYI, all over the world. The India volunteer placements are much more supported placement than WYI's other OSP, and are generally suited for volunteers who DO NOT have any specific skills they wish to use.

For more information please contact WYI's Overseas Service Project Manager Alison Wells via email or phone the office on (08) 8340 1266.
