| | Volunteer in Kenya
Kenya is known for its stunning landscape, unique wildlife and diverse cultural heritage. But this beauty contrasts sharply with the country's high levels of poverty, violence, homelessness and disease, especially HIV/AIDS. Most Kenyans live below the poverty line of $1 a day and droughts frequently put millions of people at risk. Nevertheless, the unwavering spirit of the African people shines through in their passion for music, dance and art. Today, Kenya is the ultimate destination for adventure travel in Africa. It is one of the finest safari destinations in the world, and the magical character of the country entices travellers to return time after time.
Overseas Action Program Kenya
The OA program in Kenya is not for the faint hearted. There are challenges every step of the way, but with great challenge can come great rewards! The program is for 18 - 30 year olds and runs for between 5 - 10 weeks with a professionally trained Australian Team Leader. You will work in a very hands on role, building sustainable structures in rural villages while you live and play with the local community! There is no need for any previous construction skills as we work hand in hand with local labourers - all you need is passion, and a commitment to give it a go and get your hands dirty. Your construction project will build a structure which the community desperately needs, in the areas of Primary Health Care, Income Generation and Education & Training. Individually, you will also have the opportunity to work within a community in an area you are passionate about such as education, or in an orphanage or street kids home. And, at the end of the program, you will have the chance to embark on a Masai Mara safari!
