Volunteer in Uganda

Uganda is a lush and fertile country, landlocked in the heart of Africa between Kenya, Democratic Republic of Congo, Tanzania, Sudan and Rwanda. The landscape is remarkably diverse and includes snow-capped mountains, volcanos, dense tropical forests and breathtaking waterfalls. Uganda is also the home of the mountain gorillas and the second largest fresh water lake in the world, Lake Victoria. Despite all this, Uganda remains one of the poorest countries in the world with a very high rate of HIV/Aids. The median age is just 15 years old and the Aids epidemic has cause hundreds of thousands of children to become orphaned. The need for volunteers in Uganda is huge, and there are many opportunities to make a difference with World Youth International.

Overseas Service Program Uganda

The OSP accepts participants 18 years and over and the program runs for between 1 to 6 months in duration. Departure dates are flexible, and placement options are available in the following areas:

OSP professional placements - Especially Nursing or other Healthcare based professions. As a trained professional, you can really use your skills to make a difference in a developing country, and the experience is invaluable.

OSP teaching placements - If you are a qualified teacher, we can place you straight into a hands-on role into a primary or secondary school, or in a role teaching vocational skills. We also accept non qualified teachers for this program and we provide you with a TESOL training program.

OSP general placements - If you would like to make a meaningful contribution in a developing country, but you are not exactly sure how, then this placement is for you. There are many different placement options available, and we will work with you individually to set up a placement within the following areas:

  • Primary healthcare - treatment, counselling, education
  • HIV / AIDS - testing, treatment, counselling, education, palliative care
