History
Cycling has been a regular fundraising activity within World Youth International for almost 20 years. Our first ride was in the late 80's when forty committed teenagers pedaled from Melbourne to Sydney and back and raised over $24,000. Bike rides were held in subsequent years from Sydney to Melbourne and Adelaide to Melbourne.
World Youth International held its first Pedal Against Poverty fundraiser in 2002. Hayley Stevenson, the organiser, said "Pedal against Poverty was the most rewarding experience of my life! It was an awesome opportunity to challenge myself both physically and mentally, to connect with my community through fundraising; and, most importantly, to contribute to a worthwhile project for children in Kenya." Hayley lead 18 other riders to fundraise and ride 720 kms in south-west Victoria. Hayley and her team raised $25,000.
In May 2007 Danielle Robst, from Adelaide declared she would ride her bicycle from Tibet to Nepal and raise money for WYI. Danielle raised over $12,000. |
