World Youth International (WYI) is a South Australian based charity operating since 1988. WYI specialises in community development projects and short term overseas volunteer programs, impacting the lives of thousands of people in Australia and overseas each year. WYI is committed to strengthening communities and reducing poverty and injustice through sustainable development projects. WYI's major community infrastructure projects include the building, ongoing development and support of schools and children's homes (orphanages) in Kenya and Nepal. The WYI School in Nepal was established in 1999 and is attended by almost 500 students ranging from Kindergarten to Year 10. In 2001, the Sapana Dreaming Children's Home was built adjacent to the school. Together with the Owiti Children's Home in Kenya, built in 2004, they provide orphaned children with a loving home, health care and education. WYI is a non profit, non religious and non political organisation, signatory to the Australian Council for International Development (ACFID), approved by AusAID and registered with the Department of Education, Employment & Workplace Relations. WYI also has DGR status for tax deductibility with the Australian Taxation Office. Items in the WYI Gift Catalogue address critical needs in areas including health, education and income generation.
